You know that I’m a business gal. I don’t do things because everyone else is doing them. I take my time, think them out and weight them on how they are going to benefit my audience and my business. So, when I felt impressed to jump into the MLM scene two years ago, I think people were a little bit shocked (me included). But, the reality is that joining an MLM made sense for me and my business. I tell people all the time that they need to diversify how they are making money. Adding an MLM to your business could really benefit your business and it might not be as scary or icky as you think.
Here are 5 ways MLMs are different than they used to be.
Reason #1: Social media
Social media has allowed us to be more connected to more people than ever before. We use these platforms to share our lives, our baby’s first steps, our latest Target finds and dinner recipe successes. We are constantly sharing the things that mean something to us and that make our lives easier. So, finding an MLM that sells products that we use every day makes sharing them a natural fit.
Caution: When you do decide to join an MLM and share it on your social media, you cannot change who you’ve always been and start being a salesman in every post. Nope! That is the fastest way to lose friends. Keep the same mindset that you had before you were an MLM. Share because you actually care and you know that it can actually serve someone.
Reason #2: Facebook groups are the new in-home parties
Have you noticed the recent rise in Facebook groups? It is where people are “hanging out”. Because people can check in and come and go as they please makes it an easy way for people to connect online and for brands to grow a community of like-minded people. These Facebook groups are replacing the in-home parties of the Tupperware era. As an MLMer, you can create a Facebook group, educate, nurture and sell to your audience without leaving the house.
Caution: If you use these groups to sell, sell, sell, then they will fail, fail, fail. These groups must be used as a place of connection and community. If you focus on that then they will grow, grow, grow:).
Reason #3: MLM Choices
Thirty years ago, there just weren’t that many choices of MLMs, but today, you can find an MLM to fit any niche. This adds to the argument that any business should consider diversifying with an MLM because you can find one that fits your brand and lifestyle. If you already have a following, then you can treat your MLM just like you treat your affiliate links. You share when it is appropriate to share and when it fits into your content calendar.
Reason #4 The Internet
Being able to build a business online has changed everything. Search engines have made it so that moms can really stay at home and grow a business and working women can build this business on the side because they can harness the power of search engines to aid in helping people find them and their products.
Caution: Okay, this isn’t really a caution, but more like a pro tip: If you don’t know how to use search engines to grow your MLM, you should join my Modern MLM Insiders group. I’ll walk you through step-by-step.
Reason #5 Google
You can become an expert. Yep, you. Just by using Google, you can learn anything you want. This age of experts has changed the way that MLMs run because you can start today knowing little to nothing about makeup application and skin care and through Googling and work, you can become a makeup expert. When you add an MLM to this expert influencer strategy, it is where you will really start making money.
Caution: Again, this is more a pro tip: If you really want to grow your MLM, niche down and become an expert in one thing and then incorporate this with your MLM. For example, I’m a pro at building a business online. I incorporated that with Maskcara and poof, magic! I’m winning. My sister-in-law, JoEllen at IamJoEllen.com incorporates Maskcara with minimalism and travel. Poof! Magic.
