Here are a few tips from a friend of mine, Female Foodie (you may have heard of her), on how to make Instagram tasty. In other words, let’s make Instagram fun again and get you those numbers you’re working so hard for!
3 Tips on How to Make Instagram Tasty
Female Foodie started as a blog in 2010. Brooke would document her critiques of the restaurants she’d try while traveling. In 2015 she got more intentional with her blogging. She started sharing restaurant guides which served as her main content pillar and bread and butter for a long time. Restaurant reviews have been the main backbone of her brand, however, it offers several different products which you can view HERE.
Brooke has gotten really intentional about how she markets her products on Instagram since there’s a wide variety of them. She said it’s easy to forget the numbers and followers are actually people behind a screen voting for you. Brooke knows Female Foodie isn’t for everyone, but she has really tried to put herself in the shoes of the consumer, which has worked out well in her favor.
When you’re in the beginning of your Instagram influencer journey, there’s a little more freedom. However, when you have an existing audience you need to protect that. You protect your audience by thinking about what content would be most valuable to them. It goes back to the attract, nurture, sell strategy. You can attract new people to follow you on Instagram all day long, but it’s just as important to nurture the audience you already have.
Instagram Tasty Tip #1: Sell in stories.
Brooke loves selling by showing the product in her Instagram stories. For example, one of her newer products is guided Italy trips. These have become such a big part of her business. She shows in her stories the experience of going to Italy and the daily life of being there on vacation. She’s opened it up to invite people to go with her to Italy and she acts as their guide. Since she has shown this experience in her Instagram stories, the Italy trips have sold out in less than one minute this year and last year!
Brooke believes a huge reason why these trips sell out so fast is because of how she markets them. She shows everything she’s doing while she’s there. She knows not everyone can either afford to go or even want to go–or have a preference on who they go with. No matter the preference, she shares everything they’re doing in Italy so those watching feel like they are there.
Think about the products you sell and how you can market them in more detail in your stories. You want to answer their questions, calm their concerns, and make them realize how having your product either solves their problems or makes their lives better.
Instagram Tasty Tip #2: Generate leads through Instagram.
What does your system look like with generating leads through Instagram? Brooke recently learned the power of generating leads through automation. I am also a huge fan of it because it WORKS. We use the tool ManyChat. Have you heard of it? Have you used it? It’s really popular among influencers because it allows you to grow your email list or make sales so much faster. You can set it up to where your followers can comment a certain word on your post and it’ll automatically send them a dm (that you wrote) sending them to what you want them to do next. It could be signing up for your email list, heading to a product through your affiliate link for them to buy, etc.
ManyChat completely eliminates that long process of sending people to the link in your bio to try and find what they are looking for. Eliminating the extra steps makes it so much easier for your followers to get what they want and to purchase what you’re promoting. Instagram Tasty Tip #3: Check out your competitors’ content.
One way you can gain insight into your own content is seeing what worked well for your competitors. Whether it’s an old favorite account or someone new, you can scroll through their posts and see which ones performed really well and which ones didn’t. These could give you ideas on the type of content to create with your own spin on it. We aren’t copying, but being inspired by it.
It would also help you a ton if you became an active consumer on Instagram. Refrain from mindlessly scrolling and instead be intentional about what you view. Ask yourself things like what made you stop on a certain video, what made it good, what hooked you in, etc. Notice the content that draws you in and then think about how you can apply it to the content you create.
