Don’t hate me when I say this, but it might be time for you to consider TikTok as part of your content strategy for your business. I know you’re stressing out about this, but just hear me out. I’ve done an experiment using TikTok for the past 3 months and I’m blown away by the results. So, is it time to use TikTok for your business? You might be ready after you find out how fast I grew my audience there without having to put tons of effort into it.
The experiment I did on TikTok was simple. I just started using it more consistently and I wanted to see how fast I could grow my TikTok account. Before I tell you how many followers I have on TikTok, I want to tell you that I have a little over 17k on Instagram. I’ve been doing Instagram for at least 8 years now and I’m posting reels all the time and showing up every single day. I’m proud of the community I’ve grown and nurtured there. But in the 3 months that I’ve used TikTok, my audience has grown to be well over 17k. Is that crazy?! 3 months vs. 8 years. Just let that sink in.

Why is TikTok so Big Right Now?
Why is TikTok so popular, anyway, right? What is it about its videos and platform that makes people want to stay on the app? Just to give an idea of how big TikTok actually is, I have a statistic that will blow your mind.
In 2021, TikTok was THE most popular website. (This is above Google!) Are you kidding me? TikTok is getting even more searches than Google. That is crazy to me. TikTok has been downloaded 3 billion times. So it is an extremely huge platform and more and more people and content creators are going there.
So, people are realizing how easy it actually is to grow a following on TikTok, and you can do it quickly. For example, I was talking to my sister-in-law JoEllen who is an influencer, and told her she should think about getting a TikTok account. She got it and had maybe 100 followers before she started doing anything on the app. She showed up for a few days and doubled her following.
Crazy, right? There is just no way you could ever say that you showed up on Instagram for a few days and doubled your audience. That’s why TikTok is such a big deal right now, especially for content creators. There are just so many people on TikTok that it’s so easy to grow a fast following. And the algorithm is set up so that the right people can easily find your content–but we’ll talk more about that in a bit.
How to Start Using TikTok to Grow Your Business
Using TikTok for your Biz Step #1: Don’t be scared.
I think a lot of older people are afraid to use TikTok because it has this energy around it like the people who use it are young and crazy. Yes, there is an element to that, but that’s not true for the entirety of its’ users. But you are going to be fine. You’re a big girl and you can handle TikTok people. A lot of them are actually really nice! Just like there is room for those kinds of people on TikTok, there is room for you too.
Using TikTok for your Biz Step #2: Before you post anything, just spend time on the app.
Before you jump into sharing content on TikTok, just spend some time on the app. Maybe spend 1-2 weeks viewing content and figuring out how the app works. You can take note of the kind of things you want to do when you share content on your TikTok account. See what things appeal to you, what style you want to have, what’s trending in your niche, and how people are creating content.
Using TikTok for your Biz Step #3: Use the TikTok algorithm to your benefit.
The algorithm is a double-edged sword. It is what causes your videos to go viral so easily and grow a fast following, but it can also make you see tons of content you may not want to see. The algorithm takes note of how long you spend on each video you watch and if you watch a dog video, for example, for a long time you will suddenly start seeing tons more dog videos in your feed.
So, if there are certain videos that pop up on your feed that you do not want to see, make sure you scroll right past them instead of staying on them. Otherwise, it will show you more content like that. Just be aware of how you interact with this platform. Be very careful instead of just going in and being reckless about it. How you use the app really will determine what content you see.
Using TikTok for your Biz Step #4: Post at least 2 times a day.
I know, at first, posting two times a day can sound scary or overwhelming. But it is a lot easier to post a video on TikTok than it is to post a reel on Instagram. Hopefully, that makes you feel better. But if you can just commit to posting at least 2 times a day on TikTok then your audience will grow massively faster. We are in this sweet spot right now where it is really easy to grow, so just try it!
