5 steps to discover your perfect niche

You are starting a business or wanting to grow your business or maybe you are just feeling pushed to get your voice out there to help and uplift others.  Whatever the reason, you know you should start blogging but you don’t know what to blog about.  Well, I’m here for you babe.  Here are five questions to ask when asking yourself: what should I blog about?

What is your goal?

Why are you starting a blog in the first place?  Do you feel called or passionate about a topic?  Then your goal will be to build awareness and context around your topic.  For example, maybe you have had a lot of experience with parenting a child with special needs.  You might feel called to start blogging about that so that other parents with children with special needs have a resource and community to go for help.  

Are you blogging for business?  If so, your goal would be to get more customers through increasing traffic and providing valuable content.  For example, with my Maskcara business, we wanted to attract people who were searching online to order Maskcara and didn’t want to attend a party to try it out.  Our content that we create is all focused on serving that audience.

 

What experiences do you have to offer?

If you are considering writing a blog, you know that you have something unique to offer to the world.  You have gifts and talents that no one else has.  You have experiences that no one else has experienced. Your voice matters.  Make a list of all of your gifts, talents, skills and experiences.  

 

Who do you want to serve?

Now that you know what you have to offer, now it is time to really pinpoint the people you are here to serve.  If you keep all of your goodness to yourself, it doesn’t help anyone.  Serving your audience is what blogging is all about.  Write down the exact person you want to serve.  Who are they?  What do they need?  When you figure this out, deciding what to blog about becomes easy.  

 

Which type of blogger do you want to be?  

 

There are a lot of ways that you can blog, but they can be broken down into three categories: The Expert Blog, the Lifestyle Blog and the Fusion Blog.  I go into more depth over here about how to choose which type of blogger you want to be.  The Expert chooses one niche and writes and teaches all about that one topic. The Lifestyle focuses on their every day and writes about their own experiences and teaches tricks on how to do what they do.  The Fusion is meshing those two together and share real life experience and teach on subjects that they are expert in.

 

What are some ideas you’ve already had about what to blog about?

Often people come to me thinking about starting a blog and they say that they aren’t exactly sure what to blog about. But, whenever I dig a little deeper and start finding out what their goals are, I have found that they have already had a lot of ideas going on about the things that they could write about.  If this is you, write your thoughts down no matter how crazy you think they are.  These initial thoughts make some of the best content.  

 

If this is not you, consider your answers to the above questions, find a quiet space and write down any thoughts or ideas for topics that you can think of.  Keep on writing until you can’t think of any anymore.  Whenever I do these brainstorm sessions for me, I leave with a long, long list of topics and it makes writing a blog post so much easier.
