Have you ever dreamt of scaling your business to six or seven figures? It’s not about magic formulas or fleeting trends; it’s about building sustainable systems. Whether you’re just starting or already hit the six-figure mark, well-designed systems are the key to consistent growth and a flourishing business. Here are 3 steps for building sustainable business systems.
This post, the first part of a series on business success systems, dives into the foundational steps you need to take before diving into specific tools and automation strategies.
Why Systems Matter
Launching a product or setting ambitious goals often leads to the misconception that sheer hustle will propel you forward. However, true success lies in strategic planning. Just like I’m refining systems within my growing agency to accommodate a larger team and client base, remember: your business can’t outgrow its systems.
Business Systems Step #1: Design Your Ideal Life
It’s tempting to compartmentalize your life into a business owner, spouse, parent, etc. But these roles are interconnected. When you feel like you’re failing at motherhood, it likely impacts your business performance. Therefore, we need to take a holistic approach to system design.
Journaling for Success:
- Desired Workload: How many hours do you envision working?
- Focus and Impact: What problems do you want to solve through your work?
- Family Time: When do you want to be present for your family?
- Home Life Vision: Describe your ideal home environment.
- Relationships: How much time do you want to dedicate to loved ones?
- Making it Happen: How can you structure your day to achieve your goals?
- Ideal Day Design: Envision your perfect day from start to finish.
These might seem like challenging questions. We often chase the next goal without pausing to define our own targets. Taking the time to do so empowers you to reach them more effectively. Remember, comparison is a thief. Your path is unique, and shaped by your experiences and goals. Tune out external noise and design a business and life that truly resonates with you.
Business Systems Step #2: Bridge the Gap
Now that you have a clear vision, it’s time to identify the changes needed to get there. Skipping this step leads to frustration across all aspects of your life.
For example, a system I implemented was hiring someone to help me with everyday tasks. She helps me clean, run errands, etc. This has been a game-changer! Before hiring her, I had a longer to-do list than hours in the day and I could never get caught up. It was exhausting and it wasn’t healthy or sustainable for me or my family long-term. I know you’ve felt this way too. It was hard at first to hire someone. I had to overcome the feeling if I got help with my motherhood tasks then that would make me less of a mom. That’s simply not true.
Previously, I juggled business tasks, childcare, and housework, leading to constant exhaustion and a messy home. After delegating household chores, I gained more focused work time and quality time with my kids. Hiring help doesn’t diminish your parental role; it empowers you to be a better parent.
Identify areas where systems can create more freedom in your business, home life, and other areas.
Business Systems Step #3: Building Your Support System
Many entrepreneurs navigate business and life solo, or perhaps with a partner or close friend. But as you grow, seek out a strong support network.
I know how gut-wrenching it is to have the ones who should be cheering you on be the ones questioning you. I see you and I sit with you on that. I don’t want that to be the end of your story. I want you to find the people who actually care. Find your tribe: the ones who may not understand every detail of your business but offer unwavering support and encouragement.
