Podcast Episode 72- 3 Tips on How to Have Peace in Chaos

There’s been a lot of crazy things happening over the past few months. This episode is for all of you who are in the thick of it. I want to share how to stay spiritually grounded and have peace in chaos. We have chaos all the time. Chaos occurs inside and outside our homes. Between our kids and our businesses, and the thousand other things we are usually dealing with, there’s chaos swirling everywhere. But, just because we are surrounded by chaos, it doesn’t mean that we have to have chaos within us, too. It’s been fun to think about how to stay peaceful no matter what is going on outside of you. I am excited to share these tips with you today.

Let’s dive into this topic of peace. When the Coronavirus first hit and things started shutting down, I was able to coach a lot of people through some hard things. Shutting down businesses, whether or not to fire people, it was a lot of stuff we had to think about at the beginning, right? A lot of people were surprised by my peace through all of it. Now, I’ve had some really hard times in my business. And I haven’t been spared from hard times in the past. But I’ve learned a few things that have helped me get through hard times before and they are helping me now.

3 Tips on How to Have Peace in Chaos

1-Check in with God before you check in with the world.

This is a big thing even though it seems so little. I believe in this with all of my heart. We all do the phone checks before we get out of bed. But guess what? It’s overwhelming to do that the first thing in the morning. Before we even get out of bed, we are overwhelmed. I can tell you when I do this, I am less patient with my kids and I don’t get as much done during the day. You know what I mean? I think I’m getting more done, because I start working so quickly, but I actually get less done. So I get to the end of the day and I think to myself, what did I actually do today? I just put out fires, and I went from task to task without purpose. Have you experienced this? I know that when I am diligent with my morning routine, and I’m able to have self control, I’m happier.

My morning routine

My routine is pretty simple. I get out of bed in the morning, I read scriptures, exercise, and I leave time to meditate before I get involved with the things waiting for me with business and life. By doing this, I’m able to completely take on my life in a different way. This is an eternal principle. We need to make sure that we get our errand from God each day. I know that when I spend time with God in prayer and in the scriptures, it helps me cut through all the clutter. I don’t get distracted by all the other things around me as much. I’m accessing God’s power by turning to Him every morning. That’s a big deal to start your day like that. It’s one of the best ways to have peace in chaos. I try to do this before my kids wake up so I can start my day feeling at peace, calm, and in control of the things that I can control. Try it. It makes a big difference! 2-Practice real self care

If you know me very well, you know that I have only had one massage in my life and I’m not super girly when it comes to self care. Sure, a mani/pedi, and a massage are great things to do. But I think we put too much emphasis on that type of self care, and it’s to our detriment. Those types of things are fleeting. They will help us feel calm and peaceful in the moment, but they don’t last. Now, I know that for some people, getting their nails done really means a lot to them and they really enjoy it. That’s great. You should totally have your own thing. But I don’t think we are putting enough emphasis on getting enough sleep at night, going to bed earlier, exercising, and not watching junk tv.

I think we’re spending too much time on these things that feel good in the moment and then are not good for us, our spirits, or our minds. We have to get rid of the extra stuff to really take care of ourselves and to have peace in chaos. Be really intentional about the self care that we are choosing. Are you getting enough sleep, feeding your spirit in the morning, and taking care of all of you? Take a hard look at what you are doing to practice real self-care in your life. What needs to change?

3-Pray to know how God feels about you.

I know that God loves you and I hope you know that God loves you. But I think that in our day to day lives we kind of forget. We let voices cloud our thoughts that tell us that we aren’t good enough. We hear these thoughts about how we aren’t doing the best things. Maybe you hear in your mind that you shouldn’t be working. Or you should only be spending time with your kids, or you aren’t pretty enough. There are so many areas of our lives where we have pain points. Where we feel that we aren’t measuring up to some imaginary and impossible standard.

When this happens to me, which it does because I’m human too, I say a prayer. I ask my Heavenly Father how He feels about me, and I ask Him to remind me how He feels about me. Because He loves me and He sees my potential. He sees the things that I need to do better and He will kindly correct them. He doesn’t do it out of anger. You know it’s from God when He says, “You can change and I can help.”

A lot of the time we let the enemy into our heads and we are letting him run wild with our thoughts and dragging us down and making us feel bad. We need to stop ourselves and get rid of those thoughts. And we need to take a minute and say a prayer and say, “I just need to be reminded.” Let God speak to you in the way that He can and take that as a sign that He loves you.

Remember to include God in your plans

So, those are my 3 ways to have peace in chaos. I want to share this quote from Jeffrey R. Holland:

“God is eagerly waiting for the chance to answer your prayers and fulfill your dreams, just as He always has. But He can’t if you don’t pray, and He can’t if you don’t dream. In short, He can’t if you don’t believe.”

I love this quote and I think about it a lot. The things you’re creating are good things. Because they are good things they are of God. And you have been called to be here in this moment, at this time doing what you’re doing and helping those you need to help. So take comfort in that. And in the fact that God needs you here. I adore you.
