I know what you are thinking: A blog schedule in 5 easy steps? No way! Well, my friend, I say, “yes, way!”. Remember my goal for you is to simplify writing for the creative mompreneur, like you. So, step back and be prepared to be amazed!
How to Create a Blog Schedule
So here’s the 411 on how to create a blog schedule. It’s not as hard as you might think! Let’s get into it!
Step 1. Know Your Number
How many times this month are you going to be able to blog. I recommend starting with blogging once a week and doing it in chunks so that you can sit down and get all blogs done for the month at once. This will save you time and will help you keep consistent.
Step 2. Define Your Goals
We need to start the process by coming up with some direction, because like the Cheshire Cat says, “If you don’t know where you are going, any road will take you there.” I think that this is were we are getting into trouble. If we don’t know why we are blogging then we see little reason and motivation to actually sit down and do it.
Take a look at the month ahead. Where do you want your business to be? What would you like to achieve? Then look two and three months ahead. How can you use your blog to accomplish these goals?
Clearly defining your short-term goals will help you discover why you are blogging.
Step 3. Define Your Audience
Now that you have defined your goals, you can see what you want to accomplish but to accomplish that goal, we need to bring your audience along. Define who you are writing to by pinpointing the demographics of your audience. Who are they and what do they care about? Then ask:
What value can I offer them?
What topics will they be interested in me writing about?
How can I get my audience to help me accomplish my goal?
Step 4. Make a List of Events
Make a list of current events, holidays or community events that are pertinent to you and your audience. When writing, it is a good idea to think about what is happening in the lives of your audience. Are you a high school senior photographer an is it prom season? Great! Maybe write about choosing makeup to look good in prom pictures. Are you a graphic designer who sells card templates for holidays and it is Christmas time? Awesome! Write about choosing the best outfits for family pictures. Are you an interior designer and Halloween is around the corner? Write about tips to creating a classy, spooky table scape. Make sense?
Step 5. Brainstorm
Use these events to brainstorm topics that will help you reach your audience and achieve your goals. Remember how in step one you decided how many times you were going to blog? Well, that is as many topics as you need to brainstorm. That’s it! You can do that. And that is how you create a blog schedule.
And you’re done! See. I told you so.
You’re going to love it!
