“I am a millionaire.” How does saying that phrase out loud make you feel? Nervous? Icky? Like it’s unattainable? Guess what–it’s not. Even if it’s far away from now, it is possible. And it’s time to start believing it and working toward your money goals without having any shame or doubt attached to it. This post will walk you through how to confidently step into your CEO identity.
In my last blog post, I shared some insights from my friend Sarah Young, owner of Young & Co. and a business finance coach, who gave us some tips on how to make more money in your business and actually keep it. In this post, I am going to dive deep into a few things she said that will help you move forward with reaching your money goals. Let’s get started!
2 Things to Do That Will Help You Step Into Your CEO Identity
When we think about money we usually start to get overwhelmed. You may have thoughts like you don’t have enough of it, it leaves you quickly, etc. These are mindsets that have been instilled in us from a very young age through society and personal experiences. You have the power to change this narrative and once you do you and your business will reap the rewards!
At the start of my and Sarah’s conversation, we talked about Hillary Rushford. She is someone that has been running a business for 12 years and I have been following her for almost all of that time. She just announced that she is closing the doors to her business. This caused a lot of things to happen in my heart and brain because it was such a shock to hear.
I know there are many more businesswomen out there who are afraid that this is where their businesses are headed. But it doesn’t have to be that way. One of the big parts of why they feel this way is because they are not taking their businesses seriously enough. It’s not that they don’t want to, but there’s this identity problem that causes them not to own who they actually want to become. No more, my friend.
Step #1: Claim your Identity
You are the CEO of the business you created. That is amazing! You need to own that with no hesitation, no shame, and no holding back. If you are a business mom, that’s great too! You don’t need to hide your business from your friends or family. Your business is not going to ruin the relationship you have with your kids. These things could happen, but if you show up intentionally then you really can be a great mom and an amazing business owner.
Imagine the vision you have for yourself and your business. What do you picture in the future? What’s your plan to get there? How do you feel about these goals? Write those emotions down along with your vision, goals, and plan. This is the story you are creating and when it is surrounded by excitement and purpose, you will start to enjoy your business journey so much better.
Step #2: Journal it Out
Don’t just write down a couple of sentences about this identity you are claiming. Take the time to really build it out and create a well-thought-out vision. Doing this mindset work will get you in a place where you want to show up every day and do the work to get you there.
Journaling this out will also help you identify what objections you have that would keep you from achieving this new version of yourself. Identifying them will help you learn how to overcome them and keep moving toward who you want to become.
Pro Tip: Write without editing and write without judgment. This time to journal is so precious and you don’t want to keep your thoughts and feelings from flowing by editing mistakes or being ashamed of how you really feel. Just let the words flow onto the page and don’t stop until you have nothing left to say.
