Happy 2021! Woohoo, you made it through 2020! Are you ready for the new year? I have the three trends that will jumpstart your business for this new year. So, keep reading to find out how to grow your business in 2021.
I’ve gotten a little emotional when people ask me how 2020 went. I just want someone to wrap their arms around me and give me a big hug and say, “You did it!” And that’s what I wish I could do for you, too.
Even though this past year was really hard it was personally one of my best and biggest years yet for my business. If you’re interested, check out my blog post here of all I accomplished in 2020.
I feel like we can be a bit more prepared for this new year because we expect it to be harder. We will still juggle kids staying home, global pandemic, etc., but this time we are aware of it and hopefully have a system that works for us. Thankfully, we won’t be blindsided by it like we were back in March 2020.
Michelle’s Money Makers
Have you been wondering how to grow your business in 2021? Maybe you’ve been wanting to improve your business plan, but you’re just not sure what next steps to take to get there.
You may have heard of my Money Makers coaching group before. Well, I recently got a text from my biz sister Brenna from Crafting with Brenna, who joined my group in April and let me know how her business has outrageously grown. (Check her out on Instagram here!) She went from having a few sales at the beginning of the year to having a huge spike of sales after joining my group, and she couldn’t be more excited about it.
I want you to have success like Brenna too, so I gave my Money Makers group an upgrade. I just launched a new website where I’ll be posting a master class every month along with 2 live Zoom trainings.
One of those trainings will be a live coaching session with me and the other will be a live question and answer session.
So, what are you waiting for? Do you need any more convincing? Check out the Money Makers site here, to sign up and find out more about it.
OK, now time for my top three trends on how to grow your business in 2021.
How to Grow Your Business in 2021
Trend #1: Personal Over Perfection, and then Add Connection
This idea was pronounced to me when I was watching a Christmas Special with country singer Garth Brooks. Any other die hard Garth Brooks fans out there? He puts every ounce of himself out on stage whenever he performs and I love it.
He and his wife did a special concert from their home where it was unscripted and unrehearsed. They took requests from the online audience and sang the songs. There was even a song where Garth looked at his wife and you could tell he was thinking this would be interesting because he knew they started on too high of a key. I loved that!
I was talking with some friends about it and we agreed that we loved this special so much because Garth and his wife didn’t perform this perfect concert, but one that was real which caused us all to connect with him.
Following Garth’s example, we don’t have to be perfect, especially with our business. We don’t have to perform this perfectly curated concert. We can have a concert in our living room and even start a bit too high on accident, and people will love it.
So, don’t wait for the perfect scenario, but start with where you are and what you have.
In fact, a great place to start is by changing your profile picture from your logo to yourself. People want to connect with you personally and this is a great way to pave that connection.
Another way to get that personal connection with your audience is to show up as the expert. Even if your brand is not sharing expertise in a skill, you can still show your expertise in your product.
For example, if you’re an artist and you sell paintings, you could include captions with deeper insight on your posts, teach a class, or share your creation process.
Trend #2: Add Value
2020 has been very noisy. There’s been a lot of voices, chaos and unrest, and people are exhausted.
Therefore, now more than ever, people want to come to a place where they know it will add value. You can be that place for them.
Perhaps one of the greatest lessons you could’ve learned in 2020 is to add value to people or they will stop listening.
Someone I will soon have as a guest on my podcast is Sharon Says So. She is a photographer and she also used to be a government teacher. Using her background, she started sharing Instagram reels about current events and government issues without any bias attached to it. She went from having 15k followers to 70k followers in just a few months because she was adding value to her audience.
Think about your business ideas and how you could add value to your audience. What is something you could tweak in your 2021 business plan to help you show up for your audience? How can you best answer their questions?
Trend #3: Add Video
Whether it’s YouTube, Instagram, or another social media platform, video is one of the top ways people are consuming information. Videos allow people to connect with you because they are essentially getting to know you.
Instagram introduced reels in Fall 2020 and still not a ton of people are creating them. Due to the low competition, if you start publishing reels now, they would be pushed out more which means more people would see it.
A group I’m in answered this question: What does Instagram want from us?
Answer: It wants us to post 2-3 reels per week and one IGTV per week.
Adding regular Instagram reels to your 2021 business plan is a must. However, if you’re a little nervous or not ready to create a reel, try posting videos on your story more often. Once you get warmed up to that, try creating a reel.
You can check out some of my past blog posts and trainings about reels here too. If you’re up for it, you should do my Rock the Reels challenge! It’ll be such a fun and growing experience, and perhaps spark some new business ideas.
