2022 is coming for you. Or, are you coming for it? One of the best ways we can prepare ourselves for the new year is to set our goals and know our intentions for our businesses. If you missed my post last week, I declared 2022 the year of the money maker. Doesn’t that sound amazing? To embrace this declaration, I’m going to show you how to set goals for your business right now over this Christmas time and be ready for 2022.
One thing you’ll love to have for setting your goals is my free goal-setting sheets. All you have to do is text “money maker” to 951.309.7885 to get yours. These will make it a lot easier to create your goals and then keep them organized throughout the year. I will actually be doing an Instagram Live on Dec. 15 (tomorrow!) at 9 a.m. PST. It should only take about 30 minutes, so come and we can fill out the goal planning sheets together.
In the coming year, we will be doing a race to a million! If you join the money maker text group, I’ll send you a form every month where you can fill out how much money you made from your business and what you did with that money. And I will add the money we make altogether to see how fast we can hit a million!
This will be such a fun way to keep us motivated and to cheer each other on. Plus, I love how we will be sharing how we’re using that money because that will help us celebrate our wins and manifest how when women make money, they make magic!
How to Set Goals for Your Business: Part 1
If you already have your goal-setting sheets, make sure they are printed out so you can read through them as I go over each page on this post. If you don’t have the pages yet, this post will still help you understand the sheets when you get them. And that way it will be clear and easy once you fill it out.
Step 1: Know Your Why
We have to start with why. We start with why because you need to have a firm understanding of why you’re doing this business. There are going to be a lot of bumps in the road this year and lots of times where you doubt yourself. Having your why rooted into your heart and written on your paper where you will see it every day will give you the assurance that you need to keep going and believing in yourself.
Step 2: Calculate Total Annual Income
Write down the total amount of money you made from your business over this last year. I don’t care if it was 5 bucks or 5 million bucks, it needs to be celebrated! It might take a bit of work to get your total number of the money you made, but it’ll be worth it because seeing that number will help you celebrate your hard work and the difference you made! Remember, when you track and get excited about your money, it grows.
Step 3: Identify How You Made the Money
This is a super important step because it will help you break down where your money is coming from and help you plan out your money-making goals for the new year. Try to be as exact as you can. For example, you could say you made a thousand dollars because you sold 10 photo sessions. Knowing these exact numbers will help you know what your number goals should be for the new year.
Step 4: Own Your Dream Income
The next step is to write down how much money you will make next year. Notice, it’s not how much you want to make, but how much you WILL make. Make sure to write “I will make x amount.” And fill in the blank with whatever dollar amount you commit to. It’s important to own your dreams, even if they’re big. Never be afraid to say your dreams out loud and to own them in every way.
Step 5: Identify How You Will Make that New Income
This step is where that specific number (from step 3) is going to help. This is where you write down the specific amount of sales, sessions, clients, etc. you need in order to reach your dream annual income. Try to write down 3-5 specific ways you plan to make this income. (The more specific you make your goals, the easier it will be to measure them.)
I have three for myself, and I’ll even share them with you:
- I want 1,000 women in Money Makers.
- I want 40 agency clients.
- I want 20 brand clients.
I have my Michelle Gifford Creative Agency where we create brands for clients. That includes logo, colors, fonts, messaging, email, and website. We create all of that for you, so if you’re interested in something like this for you and your business, click here!
How to Set Goals for Your Business: Part 2
This part will focus on the second page of the goal-setting sheets, which is all about platform goals. There are so many different platforms out there to help grow your business. I’ve listed a few that I can think of, but don’t feel like you have to do all of them or that you’re limited to only these. You know what’s best for your business what will be helpful to focus on when, so follow that intuition as you make these goals.
Step 1: List Current Followers
Write down the current numbers you have for your followers and/or subscribers. Next, list how many followers, subscribers, etc. you want to have by the end of the new year. Then, you will break that number up into how many you need to gain per month.
Example: Let’s say you have 10,000 Instagram followers and you want 20,000 by the end of the new year. That’s an increase of 10,000, so then I’ll divide that by 12 because there are 12 months in the year. And then that number will give me exactly how many followers I need to gain every month. That number is 833.33. Now, you don’t have to get this exact number of followers every month, but this number just helps give an idea of what needs to happen.
How to Set Goals for Your Business: Part 3
The third page of the goal-setting sheets will focus on your monthly goals. You should have at least 3 small goals every month that support your overall 3-5 goals for the whole year.
Step 1: Identify 3 Monthly Goals
Make sure these three goals are small enough to accomplish within a 4-week time span and still bring you closer to your overall goals. One way to think about it is to use your main goals for the year to decide your main goals for the month.
Step 2: Your To-Do List
Make a to-do list of all the things you need to do in order to reach your three goals for the month.
Step 3: Goal Tracker
At the bottom of the page is where you can track your progress. Did you do your to-do items? How are your numbers on your platforms? How much money did you make? Along with a few other questions to help you stay focused on meeting your overall goals.
