10 Things Every Successful Blog Should Have a 10 step checklist to making your blog successful with www.IamMichelleGifford.com

You know how I feel about blogging.  It is THE competitive edge in my business.  For the past six months, we’ve been blogging consistently about our MLM Maskcara business and now we are getting consistent traffic and consistent sales.  While everyone else is busy growing their Instagram and Facebook following and getting nowhere, I’m over here doing my own thing and reaching organic traffic.  Shhh.  Don’t tell, I’d like to keep it this way.  Jk, jk, jk.  You know I love to share because I know that we can all win and there’s enough followers to go around.

In this blog post, I’m going to share with you my list of:

A .com site

There is something professional and super legit about having .com in your name.  Pay the little extra to go from a blogspot.com or whatever to a .com.  You can walk through my free tutorial to set up your blogsite.

A clear message.

If I come to your website and am not sure if what you do or write about is going to solve my problems, then I won’t be staying very long.  Having a clear brand message above the fold (the top of the page without scrolling) on your website allows your audience to find you and stick with you.  Which leads me to number three.

A clear audience

Too many bloggers waste too much time writing to everyone.  Niching down and finding your true audience will make your blog much more appealing.  It seems counterintuitive that speaking to one person actually makes your blog more broadly applicable, but it does.  Define your audience and speak directly to them.

A clear call to action

When your audience comes to your page, what do you want them to do?  They need to know in 10 seconds how you want them to take action.  Don’t make them have to look too hard to find what you want them to do.  They will get confused and leave your site and we don’t want that.

A freebie

The whole reason you want people to come to your blog is to get them on your email list.  Offer them a freebie (a download, pdf, audio file, course) that will get them to give you their email address.  From there, you will be able to start a beautiful relationship with them that will take them from a follower to a customer. You can get my freebie.  It’s a free 5 day branding course.  It will rock your socks.

An opt in button

Make your opt in button your clear call to action.  If you can, put that button in the right top hand corner of your website.  This is prime real estate and the place your audience looks first when they come to your site.

A clear brand

Do you have a clean brand with your colors, logo and fonts?  Your site should have a cohesive feel from top to bottom.  I do this by creating my pages in Ontraport which is also my email hosting service.  Ontraport is really the secret sauce to running my business.  (And Yes, that is an affiliate link, but you know how I feel about a good affiliate.)

A lot of killer content

Now that you have the right people to your website, you are going to want to lure them in to stay a while by creating content that they can use and consume.  No use in creating a blog if there isn’t a reason to come and stay.

A way to get social

While I love blogging to drive organic traffic from Pinterest and SEO, I love chatting with my current audience on Instagram and Facebook.  This allows me to really build relationships.  So, after they opt in, the next thing I want them to do is to join me over on the Instagram for my day-to-day fun.

A whole lotta you

Your blog should scream “YOU”.  Your personality should be sprinkled like confetti all over your site.  Your audience should feel a connection with you because of your writing voice and your design style.
