7 Steps to Reinvent your Content Marketing Plan

Do you wonder if the content you’re creating for your business is actually making money? When you aren’t super confident about your content marketing then it can be hard to know how effective it actually is, and most importantly, if it’s making you money. So in this post, I am giving you a sneak peek into my content strategy. I promise this strategy will make you money without burning you out. Let’s jump into my 7 steps to reinvent your content marketing plan!

This post is part two of a 3-part series. In my last post, I talked about how to set up your content framework. That’s super important to have because you can’t really create an effective content marketing strategy without first having a solid framework. The third part is how to batch your content, so stay tuned for that!

There are plenty of reasons why you’d want to batch your content, but actually doing it can seem almost impossible. Luckily for you, I’ve got some secrets I’ll share with you to help you become a content master! (If you want help to get even more work off your hands, you can hire me and my team!)

I just batched my content for my brand because it’s pretty much summer now and I want to spend as much time with my kids, but still have a growing business. So I planned out what I’ll be doing for the next three months and got a head start on creating that content. So that’s what I’ll be walking through with you in this post to help you get a feel for how these 7 steps to reinvent your content marketing plan happens in real-time.

7 Steps to Reinvent your Content Marketing Plan

Step #1 to Reinvent your Content Marketing Plan: Decide your goals and timeframe.

As I just mentioned, I decided to batch my content for the next three months. With that timeframe in mind, I thought about what my goals are for this time of the year. I thought about what I have coming up in my business and what promotions I want to do for my products.

So, when you’re planning out your content, keep in mind which products you are wanting to sell during your chosen timeframe and make sure it’s leading you toward the next products you’ll want to promote next. For example, I know my Money Makers coaching group will open registration again in August or September, so I will have some content planned to promote that a few weeks prior to lead up to it.

If your timeframe is also 3 months, I recommend having between 2-4 goals to work toward. Of course, that number will change depending on the timeframe you’ve chosen to batch your content. I personally have 3 goals. I am working on releasing some digital products in the next months or so, prepping people for Money Makers, and giving more exposure to my marketing agency

Step #2 to Reinvent your Content Marketing Plan: Use your pillars from your framework.

If you haven’t read my last post yet, we talked about how you need at least 3 to 5 pillars that make up the framework of your content. These pillars will help you know what topics you want to teach about and give you better direction on how to serve your audience.

My pillars are:

  1. Content marketing strategy
  2. Specific tips on content marketing
  3. Content marketing news and updates
  4. Content marketing mindset

These pillars should help you know how to take your people from a place of pain to a place of happiness. Because your people have a problem, right? And your business and products are what will bring them to their solution. So you have to know what your people’s problems are and how they talk about them. (Click here to learn how to do this!) This will help you connect with your audience members and know what you should be putting in your content marketing plan.

Step #3 to Reinvent your Content Marketing Plan: Brainstorm your core content ideas.

If you’ve followed me for a while, you probably have heard me talk about my Core Content Code. But if you’re new here, it’s basically the code I follow to make my content last and have it be way more effective without me having to do any extra work.

For example, my core piece of content is my podcast. I can then stretch the content from my podcast and create a YouTube video, write a blog post, add pins for Pinterest, create a reel or post on Instagram, etc. (Read my blog post here to learn more about how to do this.) See how I hit every major search engine and more just through one piece of content? It’s pretty great.

When you are teaching the same thing across all the different platforms it looks more professional. Doing it this way will help you gain credibility and help your audience know what to expect from you, which is exactly what they want!

Step #4 to Reinvent your Content Marketing Plan: Choose the core content to create.

This is where you will decide what specific topics you will focus on. Since my core piece of content is my podcast, I start by coming up with my podcast episode topics. And then I build them out from there. So, think about what your core piece of content is–this could be your blog, a YouTube video, etc. Next, make a list of the content topics you want to focus on over your designated timeframe.

Step #5 to Reinvent your Content Marketing Plan: Choose your stretch content.

Your stretch content is basically what I mentioned earlier when I talked about my Core Content Code. You are going to decide which platform you want to stretch your core piece of content to and then recreate it to fit that format. So for me, someone from my team will take a few points from my podcast and turn it into an Instagram post, and I’ll probably do a reel about it too.

So think about how you can stretch your core content into another piece and use it on other platforms. And don’t worry about repeating yourself too much! People actually need to hear something at least 7 times before it clicks. Not to mention, the people who are watching your Instagram story are not the same people reading your email (or whatever two examples you want to use). So it’s OK to stretch your main content across different platforms because you’ll reach more people and it’ll make you known for something!

Step #6 to Reinvent your Content Marketing Plan: Write your content plan onto your calendar.

Writing your content plan onto your calendar or planner is one of my favorite steps! This is where you will see your content marketing plan come together and it’s so beautiful. If you’re looking for a planner, I’ve got the perfect one for you here! I created it, so from one creative to another, I love this planner. I love how I can plan everything out and still have extra space to brainstorm or write in other things that I need to remember for my kids or something like that.

If you’re OK with the system you already have, then use that to write down your content marketing plan. Whatever works for you! I want this to be as easily accessible as possible. Just seeing it on paper is super helpful because it makes it so you already know what you’ll be working on that day before that day comes.

Step #7 to Reinvent your Content Marketing Plan: Batch create your content.

Alright, now that your content plan is officially on your calendar, it’s time to batch your content! Once I planned all of my content out I started recording a couple of episodes a day for my podcast and then creating some content for Instagram and TikTok to go with it.

And I absolutely love my team for this step because they will turn my podcast episode into a blog post, email, and Instagram carousel post without me ever needing to touch it. It’s glorious! If you’re ready for a team, my team can totally be yours too!
