5 Reasons Your Business Needs a Blog

Blogging

When I was coaching Randi of Randi Garrett Design, she first came to me with an idea and a love for interior design.  I helped her see that her next step was creating an audience that loved her content.  When her Instagram feed went crazy and she gained thousands and thousands of followers, I told her that it was time to turn those followers into customers by creating a blog.  I helped her create her blog and she now is getting more than 65,000 visitors a month.  That’s where the money is, friends.

Creating a blog can seem a little daunting, but it is one of the best ways to grow an audience.  But here are my 5 Reasons Your Business Needs a Blog:

(If you already know you want to start one, I have a step-by-step tutorial here that gets your blog up and running in 30 minutes.)

You own it.

No matter how many followers you have on Instagram or Facebook, you do not own those followers, Facebook does.  If at any time they want to change the rules or the algorithm, they can.  This means that all of those followers you have worked so hard for may no longer be seeing you.  With a blog, you can create a system to catch your reader’s email addresses so that no matter how social media changes, you still will be able to communicate with your audience.

You can be found.

Search Engine optimization means that you can be found on Google.  Having a blog puts your content in the running for when people search for your specific content.  With a blog you can create very targeted content so that the right audience finds you organically through a google search

You are Pinning to win.

A few weeks ago, I put out a Pinterest Group Board training.  I had a lot of interest from one of my Facebook groups.  After reading the comments though, I realized that a lot of these mompreneurs were joining my group board without a blog of their own.  Without a blog and a way for you to create content for Pinterest, there is very little reason to spend much time on Pinterest for your business.  Pinterest for business can be huge if you are creating content that your audience will love and pin.  Then when people who haven’t found you yet, take to searching for your topic on Pinterest they can find your blog and give you their email address.  Then you are BFF’s.

You become the expert.

Creating content for your blog makes you the expert.  This is hugely valuable in staying competitive and with interacting with your audience.

You get more customers.

Studies show that 60% of businesses who blog receive more customers.  Blogging gives your business a voice and allows you to speak directly to your market for almost no marketing money.

A little advice for my MLM friends:

I am very new to the MLM scene, but I have found that those who have blogs are setting themselves up for long term success.  They are not relying on Facebook groups, but are creating a brand around who they are not their product.  I highly recommend it!  My first downline girl, set up her blog in a day and had her first sell within the week (and that was without doing any advertising about her product).
