I work with many women who are expert content creators for Instagram, but their growth has stopped. With each one, there usually comes a time when they have to decide if they will keep doing Instagram the way they’ve always done it or if they will adapt their strategy to what works today. 5 Tips to Reignite Your Instagram Account

If you’re about ready to give up and let Instagram win, this post is for you. I have too many conversations with women who are trying so hard to keep their Instagram accounts growing, but despite their efforts, the number won’t budge. This is exactly how Leanne felt. She was stuck at 120K followers, but once we did an audit on her Instagram account and worked with her on switching up her strategy, she grew over 50K followers and it’s still growing! This can happen to you too. You’ve just got to try something different. 

 

Instagram Growth Tip #1: Acknowledge that there can be a strategy with Instagram.

Too many people are throwing their hands up in the air and saying Instagram is the worst. And, that it’s not what it used to be, so you’re just going to throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks. And then you’re going to be mad when it doesn’t, even though you’re not changing and trying to grow and learn how Instagram is working in today’s world. 

I see this cycle way too often and it’s harmful and sad. You are giving your power away to Instagram when in fact, Instagram is a tool in your tool belt. That means we have to learn how to use it. And the truth is Instagram has completely changed over the last five years–even in the past two years. In my opinion, it’s changed for the better because Instagram used to be a little bit more lucky. Now, there are so many more elements you can control with Instagram and you can learn how it works.

The strategy that I’ve had a lot of success with on my account and my clients’ accounts is Attract, Nurture, Sell. Implementing this strategy into your content creation helps pull in so many more new followers, connect with the ones who already follow you, and actually make more money from the ones who already love you. Instagram Growth Tip #2: Instagram is becoming a better search engine–use it as one.

We’ve been dealing with search engines for a long time–Google, Pinterest, YouTube, TikTok, etc. The disconnect is that we’ve been using Instagram before it was a search engine, but now it’s functioning more and more like one every day. 

Now that Instagram functions as a search engine, our content matters way more now. Niching down is hugely important, and so are the words we use in our content because Instagram is trying to understand what our content is about. Instagram Growth Tip #3: Get really clear on who you serve.

One of the most important ways to get really clear on who you serve is crafting a specific and clear bio. Your bio should include who you are, who you serve, and how you serve them. This is your chance to be straightforward about your brand and draw your audience in (and deter those who are not your target audience). A bio’s job is not to be cute or clever. Its job is to tell people what you do and why they should follow you. 

Another way to get really clear is adopting that attract, nurture, and sell content strategy that I mentioned earlier. Getting super intentional with the content you create and who it’s for will help you niche down and create content for the right people.  

When you tighten up your content and niche down you become more clear as the content creator on who you serve AND your audience becomes more clear on how you serve them. It helps you and your people, so the more you can nail down who your ideal follower and/or customer is, the better. 

 

Instagram Growth Tip #4: Double down on what works.

A lot of creators get nervous about repeating topics or content. There’s no need to be nervous about repetition because people want predictability. Once people visit your account after seeing a reel that attracted them to you, they want to see more content that matches that initial piece that drew them in. It should all connect, so it makes more sense to new followers. 

When you have a reel perform really well, don’t be afraid to make similar content to that one. The numbers show you plain and simple what your people want, so make more of it. Think of ways you can touch on the same theme, but offer different varieties of it. 

 

 

Instagram Growth Tip #5: Incorporate ManyChat.

Do you use ManyChat? It will completely change your business. If you are new to ManyChat, it’s an automation system where you can automate DMs to your followers (and so much more). Incorporating this into my strategy exploded my followers and even my email list within weeks. Plus, Instagram loves this system because ManyChat promotes engagement on posts. It makes it really easy for people to engage with you, so it is a win-win for everyone.

If you’ve had a challenging time getting Instagram to work the way you want it to, you’ve probably had a negative thought or two about Instagram itself, right? “The algorithm hates me.” “I can’t grow.” “I’m really stuck.” “Instagram is out to get me.” Do any of these sound familiar?

When you’re posting on Instagram and communicating with your followers through videos and stories, that negative energy is not something you want to bring to your account. It seeps through everywhere and your audience will be able to feel it. So, instead of that negative energy sneaking in, you can adopt a new mantra with Instagram that brings all the positive vibes. 

“Instagram is fun.”

“I’m learning something new every day.”

“Instagram is my favorite way to talk to my audience.”

“Instagram is a tool in my tool belt and I love to learn how to use it.” 

Pick any of these as your new mantra with Instagram, or create your own. The most important thing here is if you want to use Instagram differently, you have to think of it differently. That fresh and positive perspective will bring back the joy in your Instagram work and give you the energy you need to figure out the hard stuff.
