Update #1: Pinterest Creators’ Reward Fund

Pinterest recently announced that they are stopping their creators’ reward fund. Earlier in 2022 Pinterest announced they were investing $20 million into this creators’ reward fund. They opened up the reward fund a couple of times throughout the year, so certain creators could apply to be a part of that reward fund.

If Pinterest accepted you into the rewards program then you were given a monthly challenge to create pins around a certain theme. If you completed the task then Pinterest would reward you with thousands of dollars. Pinterest was rewarding creators tons of money throughout 2022, but on Nov. 30th of the same year, Pinterest announced that this rewards program was being discontinued.

Pinterest is not the only one that did a rewards program like this. Instagram and TikTok are doing it, Snapchat did it at one point, and others. All of these different platforms are doing things to incentivize really good creators to participate on their platforms.

You may be wondering why Pinterest stopped this program after they invested so much money into it and had only been doing it for a short amount of time. But an investment like this is not sustainable. This is a good strategy to use to boost the number of creators on the platform, but it’s not something a platform can keep up long-term.

Also, just to clarify, the Pinterest Creator Fund is different than the Pinterest Creator Reward Fund. The creator fund was specifically aimed at supporting creators and communities that have been disproportionately underrepresented, and this program will continue on like normal.

Update #2: Pinterest Idea Pins + Links

Pinterest also announced that users will now be able to link idea pins. (Idea pins are short-form videos on Pinterest.) Pinterest is really pushing idea pins because this is what consumers are showing they want right now. Not being able to link idea pins up until this point has been a really big drawback because creators have not been able to control where that idea pin leads people.

For example, if you posted an idea pin about one of your products there would be no way to lead that viewer to where they could buy the product. This is a big detriment because you’re putting in all this work to post the content, but even if your audience sees it, it won’t lead them to where you want them to go next. This makes it not as strong of a strategy compared to its competitors.

However, this is no longer an issue! Pinterest heard our creator cries and answered the call. We can now lead our customers to our website, products, etc. when we post our idea pins. (Starting in January 2023.)

How the Pinterest Updates Affect Your Business

These bonus programs put on by social media platforms are simply that–bonus ways for you to make more money through promoting your business and influence. These should not be seen as options for a business model because, again, it’s just not sustainable. You should definitely take advantage of these rewards programs when they come, but when they dry up, be prepared to move on with another business strategy.

If you’ve never used Pinterest for your business, you must know that it is totally worth investing in. Pinterest drives traffic to your website (and now even more with idea pins), is one of the major search engines, where people shop, and is one of the leading platforms where you can get the biggest bang for your buck. You can read more about how to add Pinterest to your business strategy HERE.

CONTENT CREATOR SECRET

Are you tired of downloading your TikTok videos to remove the watermark in order to post the video on several other platforms? Check out the app repurpose.io. It allows you to schedule your videos to post across several platforms whenever and however you want. It’ll save you so much time and energy!! Just think–just from posting one reel on Instagram, you can then stretch that same video across TikTok, Pinterest (idea pin), YouTube (YouTube short), and Facebook (Facebook reel). So amazing and so worth it.

If you’d rather do the extra steps and save the money, you can still remove the watermarks on your videos for free. You do this by:

  1. Go to snapinsta.app
  2. Copy the link from your reel & paste the link in the space available on snapinsta.
  3. Download the video without the watermark.

Another great option is to create your videos in an app outside of the platform. For example, I use InShot or Caption. Both of these are really great and you’re able to record your videos there without a watermark, so you can post that to all the different platforms as well.

Biz Pro Tip: Make sure when you’re creating a video, you already know how you will stretch that piece of content across other platforms. Do this as often as you can. Learn more about how to stretch your content & why it’s so effective HERE.

Why My Pinterest Business Strategy is Better Than Yours

Content marketing is the way of the future. Brands are looking for content creators. And content creators are getting more powerful because they have real people invested in them personally. So, as they create content that is helpful, valuable, or entertaining, then it’ll be much easier to sell products to their audience because their people already love them and trust them.

As things change and pivot we want to build this loyal fan base so that people know what we’re here for and that they can trust us. And you build that loyal fan base by showing up for them and giving them great content across ALL the platforms on that social media content pie

Alright, my friend, I am so glad you’re here! I hope this post was helpful to you. Soon enough, you’ll be the one saying why my Pinterest business strategy is better than yours! Please, come send me a dm over on Instagram if you have any thoughts or questions about these marketing updates. Also, if you’re new to Pinterest, but really want to invest in it now I have a Pinterest course you can check out HERE that will get you set up with everything you need to know!
