6 Social Media Trends to Inspire Your Content Creation

Social Media Trend #1: Using TikTok

If you don’t know yet, I am a huge advocate for TikTok. Why? Because it is insane how fast you can grow your presence there. It took me months and months to grow a substantial amount of followers on Instagram and I gained the same amount of followers on TikTok in WEEKS. (If you don’t believe me, check out this post where I share my real-time TikTok experiment.)

TikTok is known for its short-form video format, and people are absolutely loving it. (Why do you think Instagram has been moving more toward short-form videos?) If you do not already have a TikTok account, now is the time to get one. You do not have to be afraid of it or even overwhelmed by it. Check out my post HERE to learn more about why getting a TikTok account will be worth your while.

Social Media Trend #2: Instagram Reels

Reels are HUGE for your growth on Instagram. They are becoming more and more of a social media trend because reels are the fastest way to get discovered by more people on the app. The algorithm for reels is completely different than the rest of the algorithms used for Instagram.

The algorithm for reels makes it so your content gets in front of the right people. For example, if you are a plant shop owner and you talk about how to keep house plants alive, then your reel will pop up in front of users who consume similar content or have searched for house plants, etc. This algorithm is such a game changer for content creators when you learn how to use it to your advantage.

So, if you haven’t jumped on the reels trend yet, it’s not too late. And they do not have to be perfect! I have some tips for you HERE to help you overcome your fear of reels and start growing your biz with them instead.

Social Media Trend #3: NFTs (Non-fungible Tokens)

Maybe you’ve heard of NFTs before, or maybe you haven’t. They have been around since 2014 and they have just recently started to become more valuable to content creators–especially those who sell digital products. NFTs provide a way for you to “sign” your digital products and prove ownership of it, so your content can become of monetary value to consumers.

Basically, NFTs help you sell digital items and transfer ownership. I don’t want you to feel pressured to make an NFT right away, but I do want you to learn the terminology surrounding NFTs and be educated on what’s coming next in online content creation. I have a highlight saved on my Instagram where I talk more about NFTs and other terms that go with it. You can check that out HERE

I am excited about NFTs because they help creators make a living by doing what they love. It may seem scary to learn about them right now, but they will be becoming more and more common. The more mainstream they become the less confusing they will be. The sooner you understand NFTs the better off you will be. This is going to greatly change how you create content online!

Social Media Trend #4: Long-form & Short-form Videos

Long-form and short-form videos are trending all over social media. Of course, Instagram and TikTok highlight the short-form videos that we all know and love. And while long-form videos can live on Instagram, the main platform for those types of videos can be found on YouTube. If I could do my marketing strategy all over again I would make YouTube one of my main platforms for my content.

YouTube is one of the three major search engines (the other two being Google and Pinterest). So if you were to create a YouTube video and then write a blog post about it and make some pins for Pinterest then you would be covering all three major search engines from one piece of content–which would be a genius marketing strategy!

Not only is this a brilliant marketing strategy, but videos are what consumers are searching for all day every day. Any chance you have to make a video about your content is always a good idea. Way more people will see it and people are just more interested in watching a video than reading a few paragraphs. Plus, you can always draw people in with your videos, and then once they know you they will be more willing to read your written content.

Social Media Trend #5: User-generated Content/Influencer Marketing

There are influencers all over social media. Whether you are the influencer or you are the brand, you can use influencer marketing to your advantage. Now more than ever people love getting an inside look into peoples’ lives. And it can so easily be done through stories and posts. And since consumers will be looking at the content anyway, you might as well be–no, you definitely should be–using that space to sell products or influence.

The best thing about influencer marketing is that it hardly ever comes off as too salsey or pushy to consumers. Instead, it comes off as user-generated content which is exactly what everyone wants. People want to know what products you’re using and how you like them, so you can easily start doing affiliate links, ads for brands, and things like that to help grow your biz as well.

Social Media Trend #6: Collaborations

Collaborations between brands are another popular social media trend. They are often used in order to help grow the following for each of the brands involved. Have you ever seen a post where two brands teamed up to do a giveaway and the requirement to be entered to win was to like, share, and comment on the post? That is a simple way that brands are working together to help grow their presence on social media.

If you’re looking to grow your following on Instagram, look for other Instagram accounts in your niche that would be a good fit for you to partner with. Start looking at what type of posts they make and maybe even interact with some of their posts. Then you could reach out for a potential collab. They definitely don’t need to be seen as competition because we are all in this together and cheering each other on! At least that’s how I feel about those in my corner and I hope you feel the same!
